Love, Relationship and Friendship Vocabulary Words List

Love and friendship vocabulary is a commonly used word stock in day life conversation and as a learner of Russian you have to know it. So, I made a list of words and phrases that will make it easier for you to talk about any kind of relationship.

This vocabulary list contains words and concepts related to love and relationships. It includes terms for different stages of romantic relationships, as well as words for expressing affection towards friends and family.

There are several words that are used to describe different stages and types of relationships. For example, “знакомство” (znakomstvo) refers to the initial stage of getting to know someone, while “отношения” (otnosheniya) refers to a more serious romantic relationship. But let’s learn more, anyway!

Here’s the full list:

друг – friend

лучший друг – best friend

Мы просто друзья. – We’re just friends.

познакомиться с кем-то – to get acquainted \to ge to know smb

стать друзьями, подружиться – to become friends

дружить (c) – to be friends (with someone)

Мы дружим много лет. – We have been friends for many years.

Я дружу с разными людьми. – I am friends with different type of people.

дружба – friendship

ладить – to get on well with

иметь много общего – to have a lot in common

У нас много общего. – We have a lot in common.

отношения – relationship

здоровые отношения – a healthy relationship

отношения на расстоянии – long-distance relationship

быть/состоять в отношениях – to be in a relationship

иметь постоянные отношения – to date one person regularly

иметь плохие отношения с кем-либо – to start off badly with someone

роман, интрижка – affair

флиртовать/заигрывать – to flirt (with somebody)

крутить с кем-то роман – have an affair with someone

любовь – love

любить – to love

Я встречаюсь с парнем полгода, люблю его безумно. – I’ve been dating my boyfriend for six months and love him very much.

влюбиться – to fall in love with smb.

влюбиться с первого взгляда – to fall in love with smb at first sight

свидание – date

пойти на свидание – to go on a date with someone

Пойдёшь со мной на свидание? – Would you go on a date with me?

свидание в слепую – blind date

встречаться (с кем-то) – to date someone

Мы встречались 5 лет, прежде чем пожениться. – We dated for 5 years before we got married.

Я ни с кем не встречаюсь. –  I’m not dating anyone.

идеальная пара – perfect couple

The word “парень” (paren’) is used to refer to a boyfriend, while “девушка” (devooshka) is used to refer to a girlfriend.

Он мой парень. – He’s my boyfriend.

У меня нет девушки. – I don’t have a girlfriend.

постоянный\ая – steady boyfriend \ girlfriend

голубки – lovebirds

поцелуй – kiss

целоваться – to kiss

сходить с ума (по кому-л.) – to be crazy about (someone)

потерять голову от любви – head over heels in love with (someone)

возобновлять отношения – to become friends again after a fight or argument

любовь с первого взгляда – love at first sight

созданы друг для друга – made for each other

Они созданы друг для друга. – They are made for each other.

попросить руки и сердца – ask for someone’s hand in marriage

остепениться – to settle down

помолвка – engagement

Мы помолвлены. – We’re engaged.

невеста – bride/fiancée

жених – bridegroom / fiancé

пожениться – to get married

садьба – wedding

брак – marriage

муж – husband

жена – wife

иметь любовника/любовницу – to have an affair

бросить (парня/девушку) – to dump somebody

Он меня бросил. – He dumped me.

отдаляться – to drift apart

потерять связь – to lose touch with

сойтись – to get together

разойтись – to break up, to separate
